Voting for Wirral’s Best Independent Shop or Business is currently taking place and we’re also looking for nominations in our latest search - Best for Dessert.
Next up were our furry and feathered friends and the people who take good care of them, with Sanderson Vet beating off tough competition from nine other businesses taking our latest Best of 2023 crown.
Richard, who has lived in Wirral for 16 years, opened the practice in July 2017, offering routine veterinary care, specialist veterinary services and cancer care.
They have onsite advanced imaging, nursing clinics and 24/7 emergency care.
There’s stem cell therapy, PRP, which uses the body’s natural blood to heal injuries, nano-arthroscopy, which is the latest in minimally invasive treatment, and laparoscopy -keyhole surgery.
Richard, who is 37, said: “We look after pets such as dogs and cats and are a gold accredited cat clinic and a silver accredited rabbit clinic.
“We treat exotic species such as sugar gliders, degus and snakes as well as chameleons, turtles and meerkats.
“We have even seen a tuatara.
“I have never owned or run a business before opening the practice, but as the veterinary profession became corporate owned I had a passion for offering the local Wirral people the option of continued excellence and 24/7 veterinary care with old fashioned family veterinary values.”
What do the customers – and their owners – think of Sanderson Vets? Why did they think they should win our latest title?
The team at Sanderson Vets are “compassionate, kind and caring” keeping owners informed of their pets’ progress.
One nomination said: “Excellent friendly service and very understanding.”
Another praised their care, which is available 24/7 with staff going “above and beyond” for pets all over Wirral.
Richard said: “We are one of the few independent vet practices left across the country, and being 24/7 for our registered clients is a fundamental part of the business.
“In an emergency we believe it is important to minimise travel and provide pets and their owners continuity and familiarity.
“We were so proud to be told we’d been nominated as our team work hard and sacrifice a lot of their personal time to prioritise patient care.
“It was lovely to be able to announce to the staff that our clients appreciated the efforts we make on a daily basis.
“We already have plans for a celebration event for everyone!”
