Brought to you by
Wirral Council
As the impact of climate change is brought sharply into focus ever more each year, we’ve all made adjustments, whether that’s being more stringent with the recycling, adopting a more plant-based diet, or investing in electric cars.
If you’re looking to take your contributions even further, or tell us about any changes you’ve made, Wirral’s Climate Action Hub is the place to go, with a link to where you can calculate your carbon footprint, as well as a Climate Survey to get your own thoughts across.
Having your say and participating in these projects can help to shape the direction of our climate change fight, and with your help we can all play our part to achieve carbon neutrality for Wirral by 2041.
Wirral Council declared an environment and climate emergency in 2019 and set its own target for the council to become a carbon neutral organisation by 2030 and the borough by 2041. This target, and the collective action that needs to be taken to achieve it, has been agreed by the Cool Wirral Partnership.
What does carbon neutral mean? The amount of carbon that’s produced compared to what is taken out of the atmosphere is balanced.
The Cool Wirral Partnership, made up of the council and local organisations such as housing associations, emergency services, community groups and the faith sector, co-ordinates local action on climate change.
The partners of Cool Wirral aim to:
- Generate and/or source all local energy needs from zero carbon and renewable sources by around 2041
- Create a climate resilient Wirral by identifying where any vulnerabilities might be in the face of extreme weather and putting in place policies, practices and infrastructure to limit negative impacts
- Lead the way by raising awareness of the climate emergency and the opportunities and benefits of taking climate action, securing increased investment and developing even stronger partnerships and networks
