SERVING top quality fish and chips every day is no mean feat but Boris Bektashev and Tatyana Koleva have clearly got the recipe for success.
The couple are the proud owners of SelFish in Bromborough, which has been crowned Best for Fish and Chips 2023 after the venue battered the competition from nine other fish and chip plaices.
Each week, we will be searching for the best Wirral has to offer in different categories.
The Hair, Beauty and Nail Lounge took the first Best of 2023 title – Best for Hair in Wirral – and Pies4U is officially Best for Pies with Ebony J Nails and Beauty being crowned Best for Nails.
The Fox and Hounds is Best for Roast Dinner, Shaker Shaker was announced as Best for Cocktails and Twenty Sixteen is Best for Breakfast.
Matt Colligan took the award for Best for Fitness last week.
Voting for Wirral’s Best for Tattoos is currently taking place and we’re also looking for nominations in our latest search - Best for Pizza.
Next on the menu was fish and chips and SelFish served up a winning portion of the English favourite, taking our latest Best of 2023 title.

Boris and Tatyana took over at SelFish on High Street at the end of March last year and the business was established 12 months earlier.
Boris, who is 35, said: “We are small family run business and we pride ourselves on serving freshly cooked meals to order.
“The majority of our menu features items we make from scratch ourselves.
“We serve only the best quality fish from Scottish waters as well as burgers and kebabs and freshly made pizza.”

The couple wanted to provide customers with the best possible quality food at a reasonable price when they took over at the shop with Boris having worked in fish and chip shops since 2010.
Boris said: “The demand for a freshly cooked meal will never disappear and we enjoy ourselves being able to provide the community with great meals at excellent prices.
“We pride ourselves in using fresh products as much as possible and everything is made to order with a pinch of love.”

Customers like the fresh food at this venue and with a small portion of chips costing just 50 pence, it’s a bargain!
One review on their Facebook page said: “I’ve never been disappointed with any food we’ve had from here.
“The fish, chips, curry and gravy are really nice.”

Boris said: “Our 50p chips are very popular as well as cod and chips of course but pizzas and kebabs don’t fall short behind.
“We have SelFish specials available each day and the fresh salads we make are gaining in popularity too.”
He added: “Winning this award is huge recognition and reward for all the hard work we’ve been doing over the past 12 months.
“We’re so grateful to all our customers for their support and their votes.”
