A THREE-year-old girl has been left with multiple scratches on her leg after using a slide at a park in Leasowe.

Sarah Parker, 36, from Leasowe, took her three-year-old daughter, Ella, to the small park on the corner of Twickenham Drive and Wakefield Drive in Leasowe yesterday (Tuesday, June 6) after nursery.

Speaking to the Globe, Sarah said: "We always go to the park because we live close to there and Ella loves it.

"Ella was going down the slide with a girl a little bit younger than her. She is quite repetitive because she is on the spectrum."

Sarah, and the dad of the other little girl, who was two and a half, noticed that both of their daughters had scratches on the back of their legs.

"I ran my hands down the slide and at the bottom, it was like it had buckled or fractured, and had come apart", Sarah said.

"It was like a razor and it must have been cutting them every time they were going down the slide.

"My daughter can't really verbalise she can only really cry or say 'ow' but I think because she was having that much fun she didn't notice. When I got home I put anti-bacterial wipes and savlon on her legs."

Sarah took to social media to warn others who use the park to be careful of the slide.

She added: "It's such a lovely park and so many kids go there. There's never any trouble or problems.

"I just felt the need to warn people because if it can happen to my daughter it could happen to anyone who uses the slide."

Angie Davies, Labour Councillor for Leasowe & Moreton East, told the Globe: "I have seen today on the All Things Leasowe Facebook page, that a lady has advised that her daughter had gone done the slide in the park on the corner of Wakefield Drive and Twickenham Drive in Leasowe, and that she had ended up with a series of scratches on her leg from the slide.

"I was really sorry to hear about this and have alerted the appropriate council officers about what has happened to this lady’s daughter and asked them to take urgent follow up action."

Sarah visited the park this afternoon and saw workmen fixing the slide.

A Wirral Council spokesperson said: "The playground maintenance team have visited the site and inspected the slide where they found that one of the welds had perished.

"The fault has now been rectified and the other welds have been inspected - the slide is now back in use and safe to play."
