A NETWORK of 12 schools and 500 pupils in Wirral came together to create a Eurovision Showcase to celebrate the world-renowned pop music event and pay tribute to Ukraine.
Children from Egremont Primary, Hilbre High, Castleway Primary, New Brighton Primary, Stanton Road, Poulton Lancelyn, Black Horse Hill, Church Drive, Greasby Junior, Great Meols and Brackenwood were all involved in putting on a production at Hilbre High which included 14 separate acts plus Hilbre High school’s band.
The winners were Poulton Lancelyn Primary, second place went to Egremont Primary and third place to Stanton Road Primary.
Schools had been practising over the last few weeks and on the night, each guest had the chance to vote for their winner via QR code.
The event was organised by Oak Trees Multi Academy Trust. Mel Eastwood, a head at one of the schools in the Trust had the initial idea which was to do something to unite school children across Wirral and celebrate and remember the success of Liverpool’s Eurovision in an exciting way.
Ms Eastwood, who is head at Egremont Primary said: "The event came together very well and it was unbelievable to watch the children perform their songs.

"They brought an amazing amount of glamour, sparkle and razz-matazz on the night and most definitely embraced Eurovision.
"We’re so lucky and proud that Liverpool hosted Eurovision in 2023 and we’re very aware of the reasons why this is the case so we wanted to make it a memorable event for our pupils and our Ukrainian school communities.
"It has been a sensational evening, we could not believe the turnout and how amazingly well the children performed.
"Thanks to Hilbre High for hosting and all the parents, friends and family of the children supporting on the night."
William Geskin, 10, from Great Meols Primary School, said: 'We worked very hard for four weeks before the event and it was a lot of fun.
"I love singing in the school choir and I loved watching Eurovision; Norway was my favourite."
More than 350 family members and friend of the pupils performing watched the performance and voted using a unique QR code.
A raffle and refreshments rasied cash for Claire House and Ukraine charities.
