CHEERS to Mia Williamson at Shaker Shaker – Wirral’s Best for Cocktails 2023!
Based in Heswall, the mobile bar serves cocktails to customers all over Wirral and the north west, catering for birthday parties, hen dos and other special events.
Launching a new business just weeks before the Covid-19 pandemic hit at the beginning of 2020 meant Mia was faced with challenges from the start but three and a half years later Shaker Shaker has won a top award.
Each week, we will be searching for the best Wirral has to offer in different categories.
The Hair, Beauty and Nail Lounge took the first Best of 2023 title – Best for Hair in Wirral – and Pies4U is officially Best for Pies with Ebony J Nails and Beauty being crowned Best for Nails and The Fox and Hounds is Best for Roast Dinner.
Voting for Wirral’s Best for Breakfast is currently taking place and we’re also looking for nominations in our latest search - Best for Fitness.
Next up was cocktails and as we raised a glass to the best eight cocktail places in Wirral, Shaker Shaker beat off some tough competition to take the title.
Mia had worked in the bar industry for five years starting at the age of 17 and joining Franklyn’s Bar and Kitchen two years later, before deciding to take the leap into owning a business.
The 27-year-old was brought up in Heswall and now lives in Pensby with her bespoke mobile bar service travelling to events.
She has several bars available from one metre to five metre and a new octagon bar – built by her 86-year-old grandad Alan – ready for August.
Mia said: “We cater for small intimate occasions by providing our staff to serve the drinks as well as offering a fully stocked and staffed wedding bar – we really do it all.
“We also have barrels, boats and wheel barrows for beer and cocktail ladders, bikes and trees making celebrations a little bit more special.
“We have cocktail masterclasses, which are great for hen parties and girls’ nights out and we can create bespoke cocktail menus for any occasion.”
During the first lockdown in March 2020, Mia did a cocktail challenge where she made cocktails every day for two weeks and then made DIY packages delivering them to people’s doorsteps.
The inspiration for Mia’s mobile bar is her mum Sharon, who is the perfect host when it comes to family parties.
Mia said: “I’ve seen my mum throw some fantastic parties but noticed that she wasn’t able to enjoy them as much as everyone else because she had to make sure glasses were topped up with no empties!
“That’s where we come in – we can shake cocktails at a small family gathering in a house or garden or fully cater for big functions of more than 150 guests.
“I have a passion for events and love working with clients to give them the best experience.”
But what do Shaker Shaker’s customers think of the business? Why did they think they should win Best for Cocktails 2023?
One nomination said: “This great little business serves the best cocktails.”
Another said: “This mobile bar really sets the tone for a great party – champagne and cocktails!”
Shaker Shaker offers the best classic cocktails like pina coladas and Cosmopolitans and they have a Shaker Twist menu which features some of their own recipes as well as modern takes on traditional favourites.
Customers love the refreshing berry vodka summer spritz, especially when the weather is warm, and Mia has a new summer menu out next week.
Mia said: “I was so proud to make the shortlist for this award and be among some of the best bars in Wirral.
“To hear that we’d won was amazing and I’m so grateful for everyone’s support.
“My friends and family have been my number one supporters since day one and they are a big reason why I’ve got to where I am today.
“My customers – old and new – are wonderful and I can’t thank them enough for their nominations and their votes.
“I can’t wait to see where we take Shaker Shaker next!”
