A WIRRAL teenager is set to appear in a new documentary about living with Tourette’s syndrome.

The Teacher with Tourette's will be aired on Channel 5 on Sunday (May 14) and features teacher Natalie Davison who suffers with Coprolalia – a rare form of Tourette syndrome that causes her to swear.

The show follows Natalie, the only teacher in the UK with coprolalia, who leaves behind her job at a Birmingham comprehensive school as she travels around Britain to help people with some of the most extreme cases of Tourette’s find acceptance in the workplace.

During the show, Natalie meets 17-year-old Josh Dooley and his family from Moreton who has such extreme physical tics that he has destroyed televisions, slow-cookers and given himself concussions.

In the show, Josh can be seen telling Natalie about a “massive hole” he has made in his bedroom wall due to the physical severity of his tics.

“Sometimes I’d hit my head against the wall. I gave myself concussion once. I can’t help myself. I have to do it,” he tells viewers.

To calm his tics, Josh turns to playing music and hopes to pursue his dream career in the music industry one day.

When speaking about jobs, he tells Natalie: “I’m scared of walking into a job interview and start ticking like mad. There’s no point in trying especially if it’s a shop or something like that where I’m stacking shelves and swearing at customers. It’s painful.”

In the show, Josh visits Sugar House a recording studio in St Helens for work experience to see if he can handle the pressures of the competitive industry.

The Teacher with Tourette’s airs Sunday, May 14 at 10pm on Channel 5.
