A WOMAN from Eastham celebrated her 101st birthday in style over the coronation weekend.
Mavis Beddoes, who has lived as a spinster all of her life, was very close to her brother (John) and two sisters, who have now all unfortunately died.
She worked in a bakery for many years of her life, and then worked for the Civil Service in Liverpool.
Mavis enjoyed going on family holidays to Angelssey each year with her siblings, nieces and nephews.
On Monday, May 8, Mavis celebrated her 101st birthday with residents and staff at Safe Harbour nursing home, in Bebington, where she has been for the past few years, and some of her family.
Paul Adams, Mavis' nephew, spoke to the Globe about her special day.
He said: "I bought her cake. She loves chocolate and has a real sweet tooth.
"She had some chocolates and when I arrived in the afternoon they were nowhere to be seen so she must have polished those off too."
Paul explained that Mavis was "very chirpy" on the day.
"She's very positive and it was lovely to see her so chirpy on the day", Paul said.
"Obviously she gets quite tired now and sleeps quite a lot, which isn't surprising at 101.
"The home has been so good and look after her. We're obviously very pleased for her and it's so nice to see her in such good spirits."
The staff at Safe Harbour had cakes, drinks and held a party to celebrate the King's coronation, as well as Mavis' birthday.
Paul, who lives in Warrington, will visit Mavis again on Monday (May 15) with his sister, to have another celebration as she couldn't be there for Mavis' birthday.
