OPENING your own business during lockdown was never going to be easy.
But Ebony Joy knew that she could make a success of her salon and she was right as it’s just been named Wirral’s Best for Nails 2023.
Each week, we will be searching for the best Wirral has to offer in different categories.
The Hair, Beauty and Nail Lounge took the first Best of 2023 title – Best for Hair in Wirral – and Pies4U is officially Best for Pies.
Voting for Wirral’s Best for Roast Dinner is currently taking place and we’re also looking for nominations in our latest search - Best for Cocktails.
Ten picture-perfect nail salons and nail technicians in Wirral made the shortlist for Best for Nails with Ebony J Nails and Beauty on Chapel Hill Road taking the coveted tile.
Ebony opened the business ten years ago as a sole trader renting chairs and stations in salons and in February 2020 she finally got the keys to her own salon – one month before the Covid-19 pandemic plunged the country into lockdown.
Ebony was born and raised in Moreton and knew she wanted to open a salon in the area.
She said: “I’m a Moreton girl and this is close to home.
“So many of my clients live locally but I have many who travel a fair distance for an appointment.
“We cover all aspects of hair, beauty aesthetics and everything in between but nails is what I’ve loved most since being a child.
“I used to go to my mum’s appointments with her every fortnight and kept asking the nail technicians lots of questions!
“This is where my love for salon life comes from.
“It’s a place where people can get together and share what’s going on in their lives.
“Everyone who walks through our door is made to feel welcome and we’re always willing to provide a listening ear for our clients.”
She added: “Being neurodivergent and gay, I’m passionate about creating an inclusive space for everyone.
“ADHD helps with creativity - and also makes for a messy desk – and this is what drives me.”
So, what do Ebony’s clients think of her and the business?
There were several nominations for this popular nail salon.
One recommendation said it’s a must visit place “if you want amazing nails”.
Another said it’s “second to none” created by an artistic mind.
And how did it feel when Ebony found out she’d won this year’s Best for Nails title?
She said: “When I found out I was shortlisted, I was amazed and extremely humbled by how many people had voted.
“I never imagined that I’d win!
“Being named Wirral’s Best for Nails 2023 tells me that I must be doing something right.
“Without the help of my amazing team, who work alongside me and are my best friends, Ebony J wouldn’t be what it is today.
“A huge thank you to all of our amazing clients for voting for us and supporting us each and every day.”
