A NEW comedy, written by a man from Wallasey, will premier on ITVX next year.
Danny Kenny, 37, is the writer of ITVX's new show, G'Wed.
Speaking to the Globe, he said: "I tried my hand at a few different things and it didn't work out originally.
"I never thought I'd be able to succeed in writing because I didn't live down in London. I started writing more and more and also was a script reader for some time.
"Throughout the years I'd had a few offers from production companies but this is my first big commission."
The new show is a six-part comedy from Golden Path Productions.
What is G'Wed about?
Set in Liverpool and filmed entirely on location, in and around the city, the series will feature a cast of fresh, young local actors.
It delves into the working class culture of "surviving with a sense of humour". The distinctive voice of Liverpool and the lived experience of the kids from the city will be at the heart of the show, tackling big issues like grief, sex, diversity and class differences with a sense of humour.
From Reece, the anti-hero at the heart of the show, a superficially misbehaving, potty-mouthed lad, who constantly surprises, whether that be quoting Mother Teresa, his knowledge of the work of John Steinbeck or his incredibly mature take on grief, to Aimee - ferociously determined, go-getting and emotionally mature.
ITV’s Head of Comedy, Nana Hughes said: "G’wed sees an extremely exciting group of new talent hit our screens, most of whom will be seen for the first time.
"It's all been a bit surreal", Danny added.
"I was a bit worried at first because I want people to enjoy it and I want it to be as funny as it can be.
"The world is a little more scrutinised at the moment and I want to show a modern take on teenagers and how they are working themselves through that world and how the world is changing.
"There's always a block of flats or a council estate but I want to show the fun and laughter of working-class kids."
G'Wed will start filming over the Summer and premiere on ITVX in 2024.
