A host of former Tranmere footballers will face Wirral Radio FC players for a match in aid of Wirral-based suicide prevention charity next month.
The match, at Ashville Football Club in Wallasey Village on Saturday, May 20, will raise funds for New Ferry-based charity The Martin Gallier Project.
Wirral Radio FC's squad will be playing in memory of teammate Kieran Nye, who took his own life in 2019.
Wirral Radio manager Adam Siddorn said: "The Martin Gallier Project is a charity that specialises in suicide prevention, so to raise money for such a fantastic charity in Kieran’s name is a very proud moment for all of us at the club.
"We miss our friend very much and it’s wonderful to be able to celebrate his life with some real legends of Tranmere Rovers."
The squad of former Tranmere players will feature Dale Jennings, Gareth Roberts, Kenny Irons, Alan Mahon, Clint Hill, John Welsh, Jason Price, Anthony Kay, Alex Hay, Chris Malkin, Danny Harrison, Ritchie Sutton, Alan Navarro, Chris Shuker, Ged Brannan, Lee Vaughan, Abdulai Baggie, Steve McNulty, current Tranmere Rovers captain Kane Hemmings and many more.
Rovers' legendary player Dave Higgins and former manager, Les Parry will take charge of the Tranmere Rovers Legends XI whilst TRFC Radio's Adam Siddorn will take charge of Wirral Radio FC.
Former Tranmere Rovers legend, Dave Higgins said: "We’re looking forward to raising as much money as we can for the charity.
"It’ll be fantastic to be back at the game with some of my former teammates, too.
"It would be great if people come down and gave us their support, even if football isn’t really their thing, a donation could make a real difference to a fantastic local charity.”
The match on May 20 kicks off at 2pm. Tickets, £6 for adults, can be paid on the gate with all proceeds going to charity.
