DO you remember your best childhood memories growing up in Wirral?
We asked Globe readers what their favourite place to go in Wirral as a child was and here are a round-up of their answers.
Open Air Baths
Some of the most popular responses were the baths in New Brighton and New Ferry.
Council cuts saw the closure of the New Ferry Swimming Baths in 1981 and New Brighton Baths were shut after hurricane-force winds in 1990, but they were a popular hotspot for many growing up.
Lin Woodward and Rolo Boothroyd both remembered the New Ferry Baths and Stephanie Marie, Shirley Williams and Marie Jones talked about the New Brighton baths.
Marie said: "Definitely New Brighton Baths it was brilliant."
Red Rocks
Another very common answer was Red Rocks in Hoylake.
Red Rocks Marsh is a coastal reserve covering 10 acres of sand dunes, reedbeds and marsh.
Marieann Dillon, Jan Underwood and Viv Jones all said Red Rocks was their best childhood memory.
New Palace Arcade and Adventureland, New Brighton
Whilma Wilkie built the New Palace Amusement Centre in 1939 and it was a popular attraction for many growing up.
In 2021 the closure had been postponed despite plans to demolish the building.
Many were devastated to hear the 1930s building could be levelled to make way for a hotel, flats and shops.
Rachel Victoria said: "New Brighton, especially the fun centre (Adventureland) and for fish & chips."
Sharon Ravenscroft added: "New Brighton was amazing. The indoor fair! I loved the Waltzers."
The Wirral Show
Running for 33 years, the Wirral Show, was a favourite among many when speaking about their childhood.
The huge two-day event in New Brighton was axed when organisers the Rotary Club of Wallasey and the Wallasey Lions Club pulled out.
Polly Price said: "New Brighton and to attend the Wirral Show, which I miss like mad and wish it was still on."
Rhián James and Charlene Louise Smith also said The Wirral show.
Parks
Parks are always a great day out as a child and Wirral definitely has some memorable ones.
Arrowe Park and Birkenhead Park were the stand-outs for Globe readers.
Less Corlett said: "Arrowe Park. It was literally a two-minute walk from our house and I explored nearly all of it as a kid."
Daniell Smith and Ann Tucker said Birkenhead Park.
Kathy Grant said: "Birkenhead Park most days with beef spread sandwiches and orange juice from the Clinic."
