THE 17th Mersey Tunnel 10k race took place yesterday (Sunday, April 16).
It took place from Vauxhall in Liverpool to New Brighton, via the Kingsway Tunnel, and saw more than a thousand runners take on the challenge.
The Mersey Tunnel 10K was reintroduced to the Merseyside sporting calendar back in 2006 and after a break in 2020 because of the global pandemic it was back once again for 2023.
The race started at 9.30am and followed a course through the Kingsway Tunnel, emerging on the Wirral side of the River Mersey where runners passed along Oakdale Road, Dock Road and Birkenhead Road to the promenade at the Wallasey Ferry Terminal.
It then headed along the promenade to finish at Ian Fraser Walk alongside Marine Point in New Brighton.
Ben Taylor from Pensby Runners came in first place, completing the course in 34 minutes 17 seconds.
Lisa Gawthorne from the Liverpool Pembroke and Sefton Harriers was the first woman to complete the run, finishing in 38 minutes two seconds.
