TWO childhood friends who have grown up playing football together, have set up an initiative to allow all children the chance to play the sport.

Nathan Haynes, 27, and Mikey Dixon, 28, from Pensby, currently play together for Neston Nomads FC on Sundays and Ashville Football Club on Saturdays.

The pair, who now live in Eastham, have known each other since they were seven-years-old and have always had a big love for football.

Born Again Boots is a page that was set up by Nathan and Mikey earlier this year to sell new and used boots to adults.

However, over the next couple of months, they have decided to collect football boots for children to pass on to kids across Merseyside and Cheshire who are less fortunate.

Nathan said: "With it coming to the end of the adult season we have a couple of months and we have a lot of teachers as our friends who say it's a problem.

"Children grow out of boots in a few months and the cost of them nowadays is a lot, especially with the rising costs.

Any football boots that have been outgrown, or just aren't used anymore, can be donated to Born Again Boots for the pair to donate to other children in need.

"It's just about there being no barriers", Nathan added.

"We've had a PE teacher tell us that they know a few children who won't get involved with football because they don't have the latest boots or only have the pumps you wear for PE.

"This is about being able to provide them with boots so they can play do what what we can to be the link between people who don't need the boots anymore and people who do.

Nathan went on to discuss how important football was to him and Mikey growing up.

He said: "Our dads were both football managers of teams. Playing football as children and growing up together was a big part of our lives.

"We want to make sure there is nothing stopping these kids playing football."
