AN INVESTIGATION has been launched after a driver made the decision to perform a three-point turn inside the Queensway Tunnel.
At around 11am on Saturday (March 25) shocking footage captured on another road user's dashcam circulated on social media showing a driver of a navy blue car making the dangerous manoeuvre.
The driver, who can be seen in the far left-hand lane driving towards Birkenhead, begins to cut across lanes into oncoming traffic.
The car can then be seen positioned horizontally cutting across the middle of both lanes before it continues to make a three-point turn.
The bizarre incident causes cars to swerve around the vehicle before it speeds off in the opposite direction.
The video footage shows other road users breaking sharply and beeping their horns.
A spokesperson for Merseytavel told the Globe: “Mersey Tunnels Police are aware of the incident which has been recorded on CCTV and Police investigations are ongoing.
“The safety of Mersey Tunnels customers is of paramount importance as is compliance with the Mersey Tunnels Byelaws. We thank those customers who have assisted Mersey Tunnels Police in respect of this incident.”
