A teenager was taken to hospital with a facial injury after an incident near a Wirral school today (Monday, March 27).

At around 4.10pm, Merseyside Police received a report of a teenage boy being assaulted near The Mosslands School on Mosslands Drive in Wallasey.

He was taken to hospital for treatment of a facial injury.

Chief Inspector Hamish Rawcliffe said: "We are aware of third-hand rumours in circulation of a knife being seen but I want to make it clear that these are uncorroborated by our inquiries, and that no knife was used in this incident.

"We are looking to establish the circumstances.

"Nonetheless, this incident has understandably caused some concern from pupils, staff, parents and carers alike.

"If you have any information or captured anyone involved on any devices, let us know immediately and we will investigate, working alongside the school.
