A CAFE in Hoylake and a takeaway in Liscard have been awarded one-star food hygiene ratings, meaning "major improvement is needed".
Flavours on Market Street in Hoylake, and Koko Noodle on Wallasey Road were both handed the score on Friday, February 3.
Flavours
The café says they are an "established, popular café serving breakfasts, lunches, homemade cakes and fresh ground coffees".
According to the Food Standards Agency website, the areas, "hygiene food handling" which falls under food preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling, and storage, and the "cleanliness and condition of facilities and building" were both 'good'.
However, the "management of food safety" which falls under the system or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat and evidence that staff know about food safety said 'major improvement' was necessary.
Flavours were contacted for a comment, however, they did not respond.

Koko Noodle
According to the Food Standards Agency website, similarly to Flavours, Koko received a 'good' rating in "hygiene food handling" and "cleanliness and condition of facilities and building".
The takeaway, who describes themselves as a noodle bar and takeaway offering fresh, tasty, healthy food, also was told the "management of food safety" needed 'major improvement'.
In response to the one-star rating, Waratsamon Sudson, manager of Koko Noodle said: "It was about the Safer Food Better Business (SFBB) pack which was not up to date as we understood that it was enough to record on cooking log sheets.
"Also, it was about cleaning some pipework in the kitchen that we missed and some food storage that did have the date on.
"We did improve everything straight away and sent the form and have asked for a re-visit but no response from the council yet."
