TODAY marks International Women’s Day, a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.

International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 every year and aims to shine a light on the achievements and changes that women have made in the world.

Wirral mum opens ‘safe space’ to help women through motherhood

Kate Leonard from Bromborough, who works as a holistic therapist and hypnobirthing practitioner started a new business to support women on their journey through motherhood after giving birth to her daughter, Maeve.

The 26-year-old said she found everything to be “baby-centric” and struggled to find classes catered towards mums in her local area after she give birth in August 2021.

Thinking that other women may be struggling in the same way, Kate came up with the idea for Motherhub.

‘It was my personal therapy’ Artist showcases work at International Women’s Day event

Sarah Armstrong believes that unrealistic images of women’s bodies make many women feel negative about their own so focuses her work on celebrating the female form. 

The Ellesmere Port based artist turned to painting to help with her mental health and will be displaying her work at an event celebrating International Women’s Day.

Woman who has dedicated 45 years to the NHS awarded OBE

Karen Howell who has worked for the NHS for almost 45 years was awarded an OBE in the New Year’s Honours 2023 in recognition of her service to Health Care.  

Throughout her career Karen has worked at local, regional and national level and has also advised independent health and care providers across Great Britain and Europe.

'I was a tomboy': Wirral author releases children's book about gender diversity

Lisa Satchell-Foley, 43, from Heswall released an illustrated children’s poem book raising awareness about gender diversity following a personal experience in her past.

The book focuses on a young girl who struggles with her mum’s wish for her to be dressed in a dress for her auntie and uncle’s wedding.

Neston hairdresser celebrates 60 years in business

Val Hatton (nee Leadbetter) left school at 15 years old and took on an apprenticeship with Dene Oxton at Dene’s on February 6, 1963.

Initially, her jobs were washing the salon steps each morning, cleaning ashtrays, sweeping floors and washing the rollers.

The 75-year-old from Neston spoke to the Globe about what it felt like to celebrate her 60th year as a hairdresser.
