THE son of a woman who walked in the Neston Ladies Club Day for almost seven decades has said how she "dedicated" a lot of her life to the Neston Female Society.
Betty Evans, 72, was born in Heswall but moved to Neston when she was a child.
She first walked in the Ladies Club Day parade when she was five years old and walked with the same partner, Karen Wilcocks, for the following 65 years.
Neston Female Friendly Society was established in January 1814 and continues to this day as the Neston Female Society, although it is known locally as Ladies Club.
The annual Ladies Club Day walk, held on the first Thursday in June, continues as a day enjoyed by the whole town of Neston.
As well as a commitment to Ladies Day, Betty also worked for a telecom company and a secretary at an insurance company.
Betty's son, Chris Perry, spoke to the Globe about his mother's love for Ladies Day and darts.
He said: "She used to play darts for one of the best teams around here.
"She must have had over 300 trophies. Honest to god it was just unbelievable.
"Every year at the Ladies Day parade she walked with Karen, my godmother, at the back.

"People will no doubt remember her for her involvement with Ladies Day and the Female Society."
In 2003, Betty was diagnosed with cancer and battled with it throughout her life.
"It was absolutely devastating and it just ate her away in the end," Chris added.
Betty only missed the parade when the pandemic hit and then, unfortunately, became too ill to walk in it again.
As well as being Treasurer of the Neston Female Society, she served on the Fundraising Committee as well.
Chris added: "It was a pride thing for mum as it was a tradition for Neston.
"It took over her life with all of the runnings of it."
He also explained that Betty was very close to her grandson, Chris' son, Declan who is 16-years-old.
"She idolised Declan. Absolutely idolised him," he said.
Betty passed away on Thursday, February 2.
Her funeral will take place at the Blacon Crematorium in Chester, on Monday, March 6 followed by a wake at The Malt Shovel, Neston.
