MORE than £3,000 was brought in by the council from parking fines in Neston, Little Neston and Parkgate in 2022.

Penalty Charge Notices are issued when drivers break parking regulations, such as by parking on double yellow lines or on a single yellow line at a prohibited time.

Figures obtained from a Freedom of Information request (FOI) to Cheshire West and Chester Council revealed that 95 penalties were issued in Neston, Little Neston and Parkgate from January 1 2022 to January 1 2023.

This accounts for parking fines in car parks, roads, and in places where
cars shouldn't be parked, such as on yellow lines.

The request also revealed that the amount of income these parking fines generated for Cheshire West and Chester Council was £3394.

If you have been issued with a parking fine, you can appeal the fine within 28 days of receiving it.

'Drivers are faced with the threat of parking sanctions'

The RAC Foundation, a charity for motorists, said parking rules are there for a reason – but added "over-enthusiastic parking enforcement" may also be playing a role in the rise across the UK as figures showed a rise in the average daily number of parking fines, from 17,500 in 2021 to 19,600 in the first half of last year.

Steve Gooding, director of the organisation, said: "Whichever way they turn and wherever they decide to stop, on-street and off-street, drivers are faced with the threat of parking sanctions.

"Between the 20,000 tickets issued by councils daily and the 30,000 dished out by private parking companies, motorists are seemingly facing a positive flurry of fines and charges – around one every two seconds."
