'I've never looked back': Birkenhead hairdresser scoops national award

Aaron Jones, 31, from Birkenhead, won Best Hairdresser 2022 at the National Beauty Awards held at the Hilton Hotel, Liverpool on January 22.

Aaron was presented with his Best Hairdresser Award by celebrity hairdressers and stars of The Real Housewives of Cheshire Nick and Royston.

Aaron told the Globe: “To get the recognition on such a large scale feels like such an accomplishment.

“In a climate that's super testing for businesses in general, it's great to feel rewarded for sticking at it and also to be noticed for a talent I've been trying to perfect for all these years.

“It’s massive to me and means all the hard work is starting to pay off now.”

Aaron began hairdressing during his teenage years while navigating a life away from constantly being in trouble at school.

Arron said: “When I was a teenager, I was a bit of a naughty boy and I was always getting into trouble,

“My probation officer at the time told me she saw something creative in me so she sent me off to a few different colleges to see if I could find a subject I enjoyed.”

However, once Aaron began hairdressing he said he “never looked back”.

In 2017, after six years of learning his trade, Aaron opened his boutique salon in Argyle House, Birkenhead.

He has seen his career hit new heights, taking home the North West LGBT Young Person in Business award in 2021 and being selected as the global brand REVLON Male Visionary 2019.

He said: “I opened my salon with the aim to generate a reputation I can use to inspire those from similar beginnings as myself.

“I am now determined to use this success to make sure other young creative people in the beauty industry know that anything is achievable when you put your mind to it.”
