LARGE numbers of schools across Wirral are expected to be affected when teachers go on strike tomorrow.
Many schools contacted by the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) said they would be closing completely or running only a few classes though a few will remain open. It’s expected that 23,000 schools across the UK will be affected and is the first of seven planned walkouts
The dispute is over a pay rise for teachers that is above rising inflation though the government is concerned about the impact on children’s education. Across the UK, more than 100,000 teachers are expected to go on strike.
According to the Institute for Fiscal Studies, teachers’ salaries have fallen by 11% in real terms between 2010 and 2022.
Some schools of the more than 130 schools in Wirral will be remaining open for specific classes.
Birkenhead Park School will be open for children studying their GCSEs as well as vulnerable children from years 7 through to 10.
