FROM pork pies to meat and potato pies, and apple pies to cherry pies, we all have our favourite.
Whether you like savoury ones or sweet ones, the choice of fillings for pasty cases is endless.
Today, Monday, is National Pie Day - a whole day aimed at celebrating pies in all their glory.
The special day in the calendar dates back to the 1970s when American nuclear engineer, brewer and author declared his birthday - January 23 - National Pie Day and it took off in countries around the world.
But, looking a bit closer to home, where in Wirral can you pick up a pie to mark the occasion?
As part of our Best of 2022 competition, we asked you, our readers, who makes the town's best pies.
We were inundated with nominations and recommendations and put together a shortlist of seven places to visit to try a pie.
Family-run Veronica's Bakery in Moreton owned by Shirley and John Joy was the winner of Best for Pies 2022 as they make all the pies fresh each morning.

The nominations for this bakery said it is “amazing” and “provides fresh food daily” so it had to be included in our top five.

G.H. Pearson’s, New Ferry
One happy customer said: “You haven’t had a good, tasty pie unless you’ve tried Pearson’s in New Ferry – they’re the best!”
Another recommended their pork pies above any other so it made the shortlist.

Dyll’s Bakery, Birkenhead
Homemade baking that is “without a doubt” the best place to buy a pie in Wirral, according to nominations for this pie shop.
Despite only opening two days a week between 10am and 2pm on a Friday and a Saturday, this bakery is always popular for their pies and sausage rolls.

Whieldon’s Butchers in Higher Bebington
The nominations for Whieldon’s said the butcher’s shop “makes the most gorgeous harvester pie with chicken, bacon and stuffing”.
The family run business has been open since 1957 and has two shops in Wirral – one in Town Lane and one at Claremont Farm.

This bakery has been owned by Ron and Linda since 1975 and they make fresh produce daily with their pies proving extremely popular.
