A NEW dessert shop on Wirral has proven to be a big hit so far amongst locals, in particular for its range of bubble tea.
Dough Hut opened on Moreton Cross December 9 and has already become famous for its bubble tea range — selling 350 in the first 10 days of opening, with 15-minute queues in some cases.
Dough Hut is a new family-run business that occupies the old taxi office on Pasture Road — offering mouth-watering milkshakes, slushes, ice-cream, brownies, cookies, cakes, sweets, a chocolate fountain and more.
The big talking point has been the bubble teas though, with locals going crazy about their selection of fruit drinks.
Bubble tea has reportedly exploded in popularity of late — with reports of up to one hour queues in the summer amongst some city outlets.
Dough Hut now brings the bubble tea craze to Wirral — with eight different flavours of fruit including strawberry and lychee and seven different flavours of bubbles including cherry and pineapple.
Bubble tea is a tea-based drink that originated in Taiwan in the early 1980s but recently the fruit version has exploded in popularity in the West — notably the US.
The cold drink consists of jasmine green tea and fruit syrups that are blended through a shaker machine — with fruit popping balls and ice added to the concoction.
Co-Owner Kerry Evrem said: "My uncle Marc originally wanted to turn the old taxi office into a kebab shop but I convinced him to open a bubble tea and dessert shop instead.
"He didn’t know what bubble tea was but now he’s pleased I convinced him as they have been selling like crazy!"
Kerry continued: "Strawberry has been the most popular flavour so far and one girl comes in every day — we've even had a lady in her 70s who now gets it all the time!
"They’re very refreshing drinks and the popping balls have a very unique and juicy feel to them.
"People are crazy for them in winter so I can only imagine what it will be like in summer!"
Dough Hut has also had rave reviews for their diverse range of milkshakes, with more than 20 options including Kinder, Caramac and Flake, their range of over 30 different ice-creams and their heavenly desserts.
Co-Owner Marc Stowell said: "I've been in business for over 40 years and make good decisions but I have to hand it to my niece, Kerry, on this occasion.
"I was very dubious when she mentioned bubble tea as I’d never heard of it but it seems she was right — people are going crazy about it and they’re flying out!"
