PUPILS from a Wallasey school ran down New Brighton Promenade for Mind Mental Health Charity and gifted Christmas hampers to local residents.

On Wednesday (December 14) students from Mosslands High School, an all-boys secondary school, ran either 5k or 10k for the mental health charity.

The pupils planned, raised awareness, raised funds and trained for the event.

Charlie Everall, a teacher at Mosslands, said: "They did themselves and the school proud in what could only be described as freezing conditions to say the least.

"Their spirit, commitment and dedication throughout the run was brilliant to see them helping encourage one another to finish and always having a smile on their face."

Leading up to the official run teaching staff spoke to their pupils about mental health to raise awareness.

Charlie added: "We felt as a school that promoting mental health and removing the stigma that men can't open up and talk was something we felt passionate about."

The school raised a grand total of £850 for the charity.

As well as the run, each year the school do a Christmas Hamper Appeal organised by The Protective Services Academy in the sixth form.

Students come into school wearing a Christmas jumper and along with their Christmas jumpers, they encourage and ask pupils to donate a "Christmas food item" from a given list.

The food items are then collected to create Christmas Hampers and delivered to local residents of Mosslands School.

This year pupils were able to create and hand deliver just over 70 Christmas hampers.

Charlie said: "The amount of donations we received from both staff and pupils over the past week is heart-warming and to see the smiles on the local residents as the pupils delivered them makes it all worthwhile, especially singing Christmas Carols to 88-year-old Dorris across the way."
