A Wirral health group's 'hard work and dedication' has been honoured at a national awards ceremony.

Miriam Primary Care Group won the GP Team of the Year at the National General Practice Awards held at Novotel Hotel London on December 9.

The award recognised the work of Miriam Group in delivering general practice to over 15,000 patients in area of Socioeconomic deprivation.

They noted the extended hours, drop-ins and satellite health promotion clinics to increase vaccine uptake and Covid art projects using recycled vaccination consumables.

In addition, Birkenhead Vaccination Centre co-ordinated by Miriam practice staff was recognised as a Highly Commended Finalist in the Vaccination Team category.

Dr Abhi Mantgani was also a finalist in the GP of the Year category.

This recognition comes on top of Miriam Group and Dr Mantgani success as GP Team of the Year and GP of the Year awarded by Mersey Faculty of the Royal College of General Practitioners in Manchester on November 26.

Dr Abhi Mantgani said: "This is a very proud and humbling moment.

"These awards are a recognition of the fantastic hard work and commitment of the team working at Miriam Medical Centre in Birkenhead and Earlston Medical Centre in Wallasey."

Mr Simon Banks, Wirral Place director added: "It is well deserved recognition not only of the leadership provided by the team in delivering the COVID vaccination programme but also of many years of service to the people of Birkenhead and the Wirral.

"On behalf of NHS Cheshire and Merseyside, congratulations and well done to all the team."

Dr John Mottram, joint clinical director of North Coast Alliance said: "It was an incredible honour to have spent the evening with the Miriam team when they won GP Team of the Year award in London.

"Well-deserved recognition for all their hard work and dedication over the years. I'm incredibly proud of you all."
