A WIRRAL archer's skills were right on target in a competition that saw him return home as national champion.
Tim Peers, a long-standing club member, coach and records officer of Wirral Archers and more recently the Cheshire County Records Officer, has won at the Archery GB National Indoor competition and is now the UK Masters Recurve Indoor National Champion of 2022.
This is the annual national indoor competition and as such had the nation’s best archers attending.

Tim said he was "absolutely delighted to have won" adding "there’s life in the old dog yet!"
A spokesperson for Wirral Archers told the Globe: "Tim has been training hard and shown real determination which has clearly paid off.
"Tim still found time to deliver lots of coaching to our members whilst training and he inspires us all. Tim ranked 5th in the qualification round and progressed to the head-to-head elimination rounds.
"This was a tense and close time for him, with a one arrow shoot off at one point, and as both participants scored 10 the judge measured, and Tim won by 2mm.
"He then went on to win the final round in a resounding 3 set to nil result. Congratulations Tim!"
Wirral Archers is described as a friendly and active club, with members of all ages. The club was formed in 1858, when founder members requested land for practicing archery from the newly created Birkenhead Park committee.
These early archers proved to be quite successful, with one of their sons competing at the 1908 Olympics, giving his club as 'Wirral Archers'.
It is amongst the oldest clubs in the country and formed a year before the Grand National Archery Society came into being.
The club spokesperson continued: "As a club we cater for all levels of archery and all bow disciplines, with members who shoot for the social element and those who aspire to national and Olympic levels.
"For anyone who is interested in taking up archery we have a beginners’ course starting in January with other courses planned throughout the year.
