PLANS have been submitted to turn a once popular Wallasey hotel into a hostel.

The application seeks to convert The Grove House Hotel, based in Wallasey Village, into a hostel for a temporary period of 36 months.

The proposal states that existing bedrooms within the independent hotel will be retained and used for twin hostel bedrooms. The hostel will also provide a dining area, sitting room, and garden for residents.

A design and access statement submitted by Audere BW Architects said: “Discussions with the local council and visits to the site advised that a formal application to change the use of the hotel to a hostel was required.

“Contrary to this recommendation, our client has sought advice that advises a formal change of use is not required, supported by the fact there are precedents, up and down the country, of hotels currently being used for temporary hostel use, without the need for formal applications.

“Our client, as a local businessman and developer, has always looked to work with the council, to ensure the execution of applications satisfies all involved. It is therefore without prejudice that our client is looking to apply formally for a change of use, to satisfy Wirral Council.”

The hotel, located on the north side of Grove Road, was sold to developers in May 2021 by owners, Nick and Michele Burn.
