A CHRISMAS concert has been organised in memory of a Wirral mum who died this year.

June Berry, from Spital, died in May 2022, aged 87.

During her life, June was an avid fundraiser and organised many concerts at her church, Christ Church in Port Sunlight.

June helped raise money for many charities through her concerts including Wirral St John’s Hospice, MacMillan nurses, Claire House, Kind, New Ferry Disaster Fund, Alzheimer’s research, Parkinson’s, British Heart Foundation, Help the Aged, and Malawi Water Aid.

Speaking of her mum, June’s daughter Michelle Berry, told the Globe: “Mum was a committed and dedicated lady to fundraising.

“She organised up to four events every year and raised tens of thousands of pounds over those years for charity. Her last concert was in December last year which she organised even though she was not in the best of health.”

For each concert, June would produce all the programmes and tickets herself as well as arrange the various artists to perform at the concert.

Michelle said: “She even made the refreshments herself for the interval and as a family, we would help on the door to take tickets and conduct the raffle.”

As well as being a devoted fundraiser in the local community, June also loved to sing and was a member of three choirs including Accord, Silvertones, and Bel Canto. She also attended Bromborough Folk Club.

Michelle said: “Mum would organise the whole evening and would also sing with one of her choirs as one of the acts.

“She was a truly inspirational lady and was certainly well known in Port Sunlight and Bebington. She was a wonderful woman who loved helping others and making people smile.”

In memory of June, a charity Christmas concert has been organised by June’s friends and family.

Michelle said: “Cath, one of Mum’s friends from her choir, came up with the idea of organising a charity Christmas concert in Mum’s memory.

“One of the headline acts will be the famous John O’Connell (formerly of Groundpig), he has supported many of Mum’s concerts in the past.

“Various other artists have also offered to perform in memory of mum as she was so well thought of, including the choirs that Mum was a member of."

She added: "My Dad, Ron Berry was devoted to Mum and also helped her with all the concerts over the years.

"The family really misses June, especially Dad after being together for almost 70 years. Family and friends will all be there to pull it all together on the night and do Mum June proud."

The memorial concert will take place on Wednesday, December 14 at Christ Church, Port Sunlight.

Doors will open at 7pm with the concert starting at 7.30pm. raised from this concert will go to Wirral St Johns Hospice and Port Sunlight Church memorial fund. Tickets are £10 and available from the Port Sunlight Museum (open Wednesday to Sunday). Tickets will also be available on the door.
