A SECONDARY school in Ellesmere Port is the highest-performing in the area.

Following the release of the latest Progress 8 scores, The Whitby High School has been confirmed as the highest-performing school across Ellesmere Port.

The Progress 8 score, from the Department of Education, shows how much progress pupils at a school made across 8 qualifications between the end of key stage 2 and the end of key stage 4, compared to other similar pupils nationally.

The local authority (Cheshire West and Chester) average score for state-funded schools is -0.08.

The average score for all state-funded schools in England is -0.03.

The Whitby High School scored -0.02, in line with the national average.

Other secondary schools in the area scored -0.68 and -0.99, meaning they'd made less progress.

96% of pupils at Whitby High School either stayed in education or went into employment after finishing key stage 4 (after year 11, usually aged 16).

34% of pupils achieved grade 5 or above in English and maths GCSEs, compared to 30% and 19% at the other secondary schools in the area.
