NESTON and District Christian Aid are hosting their annual sponsored walk this week.

The walk will be held on Saturday, October, 1 at 9.00am.

Walkers will register at Parkgate and Neston United Reformed Church Hall, Moorside Lane, Neston, CH64 6UZ.

The walk will take place during 'The Great Big Green Week' and will raise money to help projects in less developed countries tackle the effects of climate change.

Lynne Vaughan, Christian Aid Organiser for Neston and District, said: "Climate change is already affecting people. Some are losing houses, farmland and roads through floods, while others are losing harvests because of drought.

"We must do what we can to help people in desperate need."

Members of the public are welcome to join in, get sponsored, or just walk to show their concerns about climate change.

The walk is along the Wirral Way to Cottage Lane, Gayton, and back along the edge of the Dee estuary. Neston Fairtrade Group will serve light refreshments at Cottage Lane. The walk ends back at the URC, where homemade soup and bread rolls will be served.

At a meeting of the Neston and District Christian Aid group, Treasurer John Edwards from Willaston reported that during Christian Aid Week in May they had raised more than £2,300, with money coming from a bucket collection at Gordale, and collections at many local churches.

Money had also been given by local people online direct to Christian Aid. In addition, they had raised over £3460 for the Ukraine Appeal. Secretary Lynne Vaughan thanked John, and said ‘This is an excellent total, given the difficulties caused by Covid.’

One World Week runs from October, 23 to 30, with a service at Neston Parish Church on October, 23 at 6.30pm.
