ST ANSELMS COLLEGE
Year 13 students at St. Anselm’s College, Birkenhead, are celebrating a successful conclusion to their 6th Form careers after achieving very good A Level results with 53% A*-B grades and 81% A*-C. 99% of all students were awarded 3 or more A Level or equivalent passes. This maintains the College’s tradition of high value added from GCSE to A Level, when it was top of the DfE post-16 Progress Tables in Merseyside in 2020.
There were many outstanding individual achievements with Samuel Butterworth, from Greasby, being awarded 4A* grades, equalling the College record. He will now study Chemical Engineering at the University of Lancaster. Dylan Adlard, from Bromborough, secured 3 A* grades and will now train to be a pilot, while Max Forman, from Bebington, and Thomas Whiteley, from Meols, 2A* and 2 A grades each. Head Boy Obe Callaghan, from Hoylake, has won a place to read Theology at Lucy Cavendish College, University of Cambridge, following in the footstep of his elder brother. 11% of students achieved at least 2 A* grades, a College record.
Headmaster Simon Duggan commented “These impressive results are a fair reflection of the ability and commitment of these students who have persevered impressively through considerable disruption to their studies during the past 2 years. We are confident that they are well-prepared for the challenges and excitement of university life.”
The College is the Roman Catholic Academy for boys aged 11-19 in Wirral and Cheshire. It was judged to be “Good” in all areas when inspected by Ofsted in 2019 when inspectors commented that “Sixth Form students benefit from the wide-ranging activities provided. They are prepared well to succeed, academically and socially, in their next steps.” Post-16 facilities will be further enhanced this year with the conversion of the top floor of Outwood House, our Sixth Form centre. Please see the new College website at www.st-anselms.com for further details of Sixth Form provision and College life. Our next Open Evening, for entry to Year 7 in September 2023, is on Thursday 15th September.
