A WIRRAL bar where tracksuits are banned could be shut down after a number of reports of violence.
Platinum Bar, on Conway Street, Birkenhead, had its licence temporarily suspended in November on the grounds of “serious crime and disorder occurring at the premises.”
On November 26, the Licensing Panel for Wirral Council decided to lift the suspension on certain conditions such as refusing entry to anyone wearing tracksuits or sports shorts.
Now Merseyside Police have submitted another application for a review of the bar’s licence saying there were “a considerable number of reports of violence occurring at the premises” since the suspension was lifted.
A police statement said: “The occurrence of these incidents is undermining the prevention of crime and disorder, public safety and prevention of public nuisance.”
The Licensing Panel is required to make a decision by law that could include suspending or revoking the license, modifying the conditions, or deciding no action is needed.
When the licence was reinstated in November, there were conditions attached. These included requiring door staff to use knife wands, carry out frequent searches, and wear hi-vis and body cameras. Platinum Bar is also required to stop selling alcohol at 4am at weekends and close at 4.30am.
Anyone wearing tracksuits or sports shorts are also to be refused entry under current rules.
Previous incidents at the bar include a man pulling a machete out of his trousers after he was refused entry for being too drunk. Another included a group throwing eggs and stones on “Freedom Day” when Covid restrictions were eased while in October last year, a man was attacked by a man inside the club.
Platinum Bar was approached for comment.
