RAW sewage has been overflowing into a park in New Brighton due to a blocked drain.
Sewage has flooded into Vale Park in New Brighton which residents say has caused a “stench”.
The drain, which is near Vale House community Centre, has caused toilet paper and baby wipes to spill onto the grass and footpath which some locals have labelled a “health hazard”.
Members of a Vale Park community Facebook group have taken to social media to share their views on the issue.
One user commented: “I reported it when the stench and wet wipes started flowing down the path from a grid next to the bandstand.”
Another said: “It's absolutely disgusting and definitely a health hazard.”
Since the issue, the affected area of the park has been spotted fenced off as the council tries to establish where the blockage is.
A spokesperson for Wirral Council said: “We are in the process of dealing with what appears to be a blocked drain close to Vale House Community Centre in Vale Park.
“Engineers have visited the site on two occasions and tried to clear the blockage using rodding and jetting methods, which have not been successful.
"We have now commissioned a CCTV Drainage Survey to be carried out which should pinpoint the blockage and get it cleared as soon as possible.
“In the meantime, specialist cleaners are clearing up any mess that has been caused by the blockage today and the footpath past the bandstand affected remains closed.
“We’d ask visitors to respect the closure of the footpath and use a different route through the park.”
