WIRRAL's mayor and mayoress has helped raise a flag in the build-up to Armed Forces Day.
Cllr Jeff Green and Mrs Carol Green joined members of 234 (Wirral) Supply Squadron Royal Logistic Corps for the event at Birkenhead town hall.
Wallasey and Birkenhead town halls now join hundreds of other public buildings and landmarks across the country to show support for our Armed Forces community, which includes serving personnel and their families, veterans and cadets.
Armed Forces Day is tomorrow.
The Mayor, who is the council's Armed Forces Champion, said: "Armed Forces Day provides a great opportunity for us all to reflect on the vital work done by our service men and women, who stand vigilant and prepared around the clock, every day of the year, to keep us safe.
"Their professionalism and ability to deal with whatever is asked of them was demonstrated magnificently through the pandemic, where they gave critical logistical support at our PPE and food hubs, and provided crucial expertise at our testing and vaccination centres.
"Their hard work - often at great personal risk - and the sacrifices they and their families make on our behalf, deserve all of our thanks and appreciation.
"So this Armed Forces Day, please spare a thought - and perhaps raise a cheer – for our incredible Armed Forces community."
The Mayor will also join other civic leaders from across our city region at a special service of thanksgiving at Liverpool Parish Church on Saturday morning, before joining a parade which will include the band of the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, veterans and cadets. The parade will leave the church at 11.15am before ending at the Royal Albert Dock at 11.45am.
