THE boss of a Wirral charity is preparing for "a slightly crazy fund raiser" - an attempt to break the World Record for the longest ever journey on a 50cc motorbike.

Mark Johnston's journey will take in 30 ccountries and 10,210 miles will be required to break the current record.

The route will include Nordkapp, the northerly most tip of Norway deep inside the Arctic Circle, Moldova, Albania, Kosovo and Bosnia.

A bright yellow Honda Cub 50 will be loaded up with luggage, spare parts, extra fuel and a hammock for overnight accommodation.

A huge 255 miles each day will be required on a tiny little bike that can just about clear 30 mph and isn’t allowed on any motorways.

Mark, chief executive of Pioneer People Wirral, told the Globe: "I have just recently returned from a trip to deliver aid to Ukraine and spent time in some of the refugee camps in Poland and wanted to do something to raise money to continue our charity's work with people fleeing the war.

"We have also submitted expressions of interest to try and rescue at least one Wirral Library that are sadly earmarked for closure.

"I have always fancied trying to break a World Record, have a little Honda 50 and now have two great causes to raise some cash for, what can possibly go wrong?"

To make the trip even harder Mark won’t be using a Sat Nav and will be sleeping under the stars in his hammock or tiny tent. It’s not too clear which is likely to breakdown first, the bike or the rider.

Mark will be hitting the road on June 12 and hopes to complete the journey in just six weeks.

Those interested in following his misadventures can join Facebook Page – 50cc World Record Attempt as there will be daily blogs and photos.

Individuals or local companies who fancy adding a donation to the sponsorship pot can donate through Go Fund Me website – 50cc World Record Attempt Longest Journey.

Every single penny raised will go towards the two causes as the entire expedition costs are being met personally.
