A SCHOOL boy from Prenton spent his half-term setting up a GoFundMe page in the hopes of fundraising for his local mosque.
Ejaz Zamal, 12, from Co-op Academy Bebington has set out to raise funds for Shah Jalal Masjid Mosque on Hollybank Road in Birkenhead which is in need of essential repairs.
The costs of the repairs are estimated at £40,000 with Ejaz aiming to raise £10,000 for the mosque.
Speaking of the idea, Ejaz’s dad, Sam Zamal, told the Globe: “Ejaz has been taking Arabic classes at the mosque now for two years and he was telling me about the refurbishment and how much it would cost to complete all the renovations, so I suggested that he started a GoFundMe page.”
Sam said Ejaz has “always cared” about helping those in need as he receives support in school himself.
Sam said: “He’s dyslexic and has always been given extra support in school so I think that’s where he’s picked up his caring nature from.
“He’s a jolly young boy who always wants to help others. When I give him pocket money and he sees someone on the street he will end up giving his money to them.
“He always cares about people in need.”
Since setting up the GoFundMe page five days ago, Ejaz has managed to raise £1,000 out of his £10,000 target.
Sam said: “We’ve had local people donate as well as people from Birmingham and London. We’ve had support from all different kinds of communities.
“Ejaz is so excited he has been checking the page every day to see its progress.”
Sam added: “Funds are limited at the mosque so they’ve grateful for any support from the community.
“They’re very happy that he is trying to help them raise funds and I’m very proud of him.”
