A SPECIALIST gym that offers virtual reality rooms and golf simulator rooms has opened in Birkenhead.

Bare Rooms specialises in private training rooms for those with mental health issues, are self-conscious, or looking for an alternative to open plan gyms.

Gym owner, Wayne Hughes came up with the idea after suffering an injury and becoming self conscious when working out in his local gym.

He told the Globe: “After hurting my knee and ankle I went through a bit of rehabilitation before easing my way back into the gym.

Wirral Globe:

“I had to work out with big straps due to my injuries and I couldn’t help but feel really self-conscious feeling like I was taking up space, getting in people’s way and other gym users giving me funny looks.”

Wayne decided to buy gym equipment and began working out from home.

He said: “It was a nightmare. I had so many distractions, there wasn’t enough room and my dog kept getting in the way.”

Wayne realised that there are many people who would prefer their own private workout space and began working on the concept of Bare Rooms.

The specialist gym offers workout spaces with single, double, and small group rooms that have projectors for people to play their own music and videos.

All the rooms are soundproofed and have their own app with access to thousands of online workouts.

Wayne said: “We’ve custom-made everything here in the warehouse building and recruited local street artist Johnny Benson to do some cool artwork.

“It’s a really inclusive space that’s suitable for everyone and ideal for those who want a private workout room — great if you are someone with mental health issues or simply don’t want a crowded area and people ogling at you.”

The gym also features a virtual reality room where gym-goers can use a VR treadmill and virtual golf simulator as well as other VR games where you can run, jump and walk safely.
