More than half (54%) of the UK’s New Year’s Eve plans could be scuppered once again if new restrictions are brought in after Christmas.
And 18-24-year-olds could be set for double disappointment as new research reveals that nearly 70% of the age group were planning on their biggest celebrations yet.
Owners of bars and clubs, and organisers of live events are set to miss out the most, having been named as the most popular options by a nation planning to make up for lost time, according to results of a new survey by Skiddle.
While just 4% of Brits had planned to stay home this year, the continued uncertainty around the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has accelerated a change in people’s decisions, with Skiddle reporting a 26% decrease in ticket sales for New Year’s Eve events - at what is usually their peak period.
Cities such as London, Manchester and Liverpool may feel the effects of New Year’s Eve restrictions the most, having been crowned the nightlife capitals by those surveyed by the event discovery platform.
Bristol and Glasgow’s claim as the UK’s hardest partiers, with more than half of its residents ALWAYS hitting the town to celebrate New Year’s Eve, will have to settle for a night on the couch instead, whilst two thirds (67%) of Brits may be forced to spend the New Year’s Eve celebrations with their partner, rather than their mates.
Jamie Scahill, Head of Marketing at Skiddle, commented: "Only a month ago, our sales data showed that this could be the biggest New Year’s Eve we’ve ever seen.
"But, the uncertainty has been creeping in and we’ve now started to see a huge dip in ticket sales for our New Year’s Eve events. This is usually our peak time for sales, but I think people are just holding off until they know exactly what’s going on.”
Despite a dip in sales for NYE, results from the ticket sales this year show that live music has thrived in 2021, and Skiddle are looking forward to another great one in 2022.
Jamie added: “We’ve had an amazing year, generally the busiest in 21 years. Here’s hoping we get to really go for it in 2022”
Skiddle is the leading Ticket Sales, Clubs Listings, Events & What's On Guide website in the UK.
