COMPLETION of work on a new office block forming part of Wirral Waters dockside regeneration has been described as "an exciting milestone" by the project's developer.
Hythe, Peel L&P’s Grade A office building, boasts "stunning panoramic views across the Wirral Waters waterfront and the Liverpool City skyline, as well as the latest digital connectivity and excellent green credentials".
Hythe was designed by award winning architects Glenn Howells and built by GMI Construction.
Throughout the project, Peel L&P worked with local supply chains and offered extensive learning opportunities to construction students at Wirral Met College. This included activities to promote work experience and apprenticeships for its students.
Hythe was designed by award winning architects Glenn Howells to "maximise the health and wellbeing of workers and to accommodate the latest innovations in digital connectivity".
Inside the building
Steve Rotheram, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, said: "The completion of the Hythe marks an important stage in the development of Wirral Waters. Not only does it offer some of the most advanced office space in the area, it is also one of the greenest and most sustainable buildings in the country."
Hythe has been funded by Peel L&P, Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, through the Local Growth Fund, and the Merseyside Pension Fund.
Cllr Pat Cleary, chair of Merseyside Pension Fund, said: "I know that members of the Merseyside Pension Fund really value our approach to local investment. It's therefore very pleasing to see another of our city region investments come to fruition and further enhance the wider Wirral Waters development."
The Wirral Waters project is a 30-year strategy that aims to transform the derelict site into a sustainable location for local and international businesses, creating more than 20,000 permanent jobs for Liverpool City Region, as well as offering new housing opportunities.
The project is supported by central Government and was designated Enterprise Zone status in 2011 – one of the first four Enterprise Zones in the UK and known as the Mersey Waters Enterprise Zone.
Richard Mawdsley, director of development for Wirral Waters at Peel L&P, described completion of work on the Hythe as: "an exciting milestone for Wirral Waters and is testament to the collaboration and partnership working of everyone involved."
He added: "Hythe offers stunning views and innovative technology that will attract entrepreneurs and businesses to the Wirral, helping to accelerate growth and attract economic prosperity.
"This development forms part of the Four Bridges neighbourhood, which already includes Wirral Met College and will also include Egerton Village, a waterside retail, leisure, arts and event space that will provide local amenities and facilities for the businesses and residential communities at Wirral Waters.
"I would like to thank all the partners involved and the team at GMI Construction who have done a fantastic job on delivering this incredible asset for Wirral Waters."
Cllr Tony Jones, chair of Wirral Council's economy, regeneration and development committee, said: "The completion of Hythe is a significant moment for the regeneration of the Wirral Waters, a catalyst project for Wirral's Left Bank.
"We look forward to seeing businesses moving in in the New Year and the difference this will make to the area as it grows into a place for people to live, work, learn and spend time."
Marc Banks, divisional managing director of GMI Construction Group, said: "Hythe has been a flagship of excellence in this region for our business and we’re proud of the expert GMI team who have produced an outstanding building which will be of huge benefit to the whole community."
