Lufthansa has announced that from next year it will operate four weekly flights to Frankfurt out of Liverpool John Lennon Airport.
The new route will start on May 4 2022 and operate four times a week.
The service will be the first time in its 66-year history in Britain that Lufthansa, as one of Europe’s leading airlines, will take off at Liverpool.
The flights will use the airline's Airbus A320 or Bombardier CRJ900.
Frankfurt is a German city on the river Main and is a major financial hub, home to the European Central Bank.
Much of the city was damaged during World War II and later rebuilt.
The reconstructed Altstadt (Old Town) is the site of Römerberg, a square that hosts an annual Christmas market.
Flights are now on sale and can be bought on Lufthansa's website.
