TODAY we announce the sixth winner of the Wirral Globe Community Heroes Awards.
As we have continued to rebuild and recover from the coronavirus pandemic, the awards are given to honour those who have gone above and beyond in the last 20 months.
The awards recognise the everyday heroes and those working in business, education and hospitality who have stepped up.
The sixth award winner to be announced is for the category Everyday Hero, which is sponsored by Suretax.
This award recognises someone who is selfless and dedicated in helping others in their day-to-day life.
They will have kept spirits high with people they meet, looked out for other people and helped them when they have needed it, whether by helping those who needed extra support during the pandemic or by maintaining a positive outlook.
We are delighted to announce that the winner of this award is Michelle Naylor, who is Family and Community Manager at Shaftesbury Youth Club.
Her outstanding work with young people has really resonated with the people she helps and that was reflected in some of the fantastic nominations that she received.
One submission said: "Thank you so much for everything you have done for my family and me. My children adore you and are always talking about you. You provide them with a stability that I cant always do. They have been so lucky to have all the experiences you have provided for them and all the trips but most importantly the time you have given them is invaluable."
Another nomination for Michelle read: "She gives so much of her spare time and her work time to Shaftes and to the community. She's always got a smile on her face and always happy and makes everyone around her feel happy."
During the pandemic, when the youth centre was not open, Michelle made sure all the families had food and supplies. She delivered hampers daily to everyone.
"Michelle is an absolute hero and without her everyone would be lost. She has a massive heart of gold and all the children and their families love her. She deserves some recognition and we would love for her to win this award," read another submission.
Also Highly Commended in this category is Joanna Bateman.
Joanna volunteers with Koala as a breastfeeding support worker and also helps Wirral parents to read to their children.
She mentors young people at The Hive, Wirral Youth Zone, while also delivering STEM activities to local children as an ICE Ambassador.
A huge congratulations to Michelle for winning our Everyday Hero Award and well done to Joanna for being highly commended.
Tomorrow we will be announcing the winner of our Carer of the Year award.
