A WIRRAL health team delivered more than 2,000 Covid booster vaccinations in the first week of the programme.
The vaccination team at Birkenhead Medical Building became the first centre in North West to starting giving the new booster jabs on September 20.
And on Tuesday, September 28, the service commenced vaccinating care home residents, followed by house bound patients.
Dr John Mottram, GP and Joint Clinical Director of North Coast. said: "Whilst we never underestimated the enormity of the task to vaccinate and protect our Wirral population, few of us envisaged that we would still be vaccinating at such a large scale 10 months later.
"We continue to offer first and second doses to those that need them and have recently started with booster vaccines.
"Our team continue to welcome people with the same levels of enthusiasm they had on the first day and I am so proud of the attitude, commitment, dedication, and resilience of our team of vaccinators and administrators."
Open seven days a week, Birkenhead Medical Building has given over 95,000 shots to date and is continuing the enormous effort to protect patients, public and staff.
Covid boosters are being prioritised by most vulnerable groups and invited through their practice. All adults over the age of 50, persons aged 16 + with associated medical problems and frontline health and care workers are eligible to have the booster jab with a minimum six month gap after their second dose.
The Laird Street team is continuing to offer first and second doses of the vaccine for any Wirral resident. There is no need for an appointment anyone over the age of 16 years can attend to have their vaccination.
Dr Abhi Mantgani, lead for the service, said: “I urge all those who have not been vaccinated to get themselves protected and recommend the booster dose to give the additional protection this winter.
"The Covid numbers are still too high and young people are badly affected. Come and have your vaccine to protect yourself, your family and friends."
