ST ANSELMS COLLEGE
Year 13 students at St. Anselm’s College, Birkenhead, have maintained the high standards of recent years, despite the disruption suffered this year.
They are celebrating a successful conclusion to their college careers after being awarded record A level results with 49% A*/A grades, 73% A*- B grades and a 100% pass rate. All students were awarded 3 or more A Level or equivalent passes.
This maintains the college’s tradition of high value added from GCSE to A Level. 75% of all BTEC grades were awarded Distinction or better with 100% passes.
There were many outstanding individual achievements with 3 students being awarded 4A* grades, equalling the college record. Mathematicians Thomas Hennessy, from Great Sutton and Simon Shackleton, from Prenton, have secured places at the University of Warwick. Divij Wankhade, from Prenton, has a place at Imperial College, London, to read Aeronautical Engineering. Michael Hughes, from Heswall, (3A*s) has secured his place to read Modern History at Balliol College, University of Oxford.
4 medical places have been achieved, the best for many years. Head Boy Will Nicholls, from Moreton and Deputy Head Boy Matthew Ryan, from Eastham, both achieved 3 A*s and will study at Keele and the University of Leeds Medical Schools respectively whilst Daniel Lyon (Lancaster) and Oliver Macdonald (Dental Surgery, University of Plymouth) also secured their offers.
John Barron, Patrick Darroch, Archie Jones, and Joel Sebastian, were also awarded 3 A* grades.
Headmaster Simon Duggan commented “The grades awarded are a fair reflection of the dedication and ability of this outstanding group of students who have made a wonderful contribution to our community, under challenging circumstances.”
St. Anselm’s College was the top 6th Form in Wirral, and best maintained 6th Form in Merseyside, for progress from GCSE to A level in 2019, the last year in which public exams were sat.
