A number of walk-in covid vaccination clinics will be open at locations in Birkenhead and Wallasey over the next two weeks.

Run by the vaccination team at Birkenhead Medical Building, it follows the success of the vaccination bus and community clinics last month.

Anyone over the age of 16 can attend to have their jabs.

Based on national guidance, both Pfizer and Oxford Astra Zeneca vaccines will be available.

There is also an option to have your second dose as long as it has been at least eight weeks since the first injection. the success of the vaccination bus and community clinics last month.

Dr Abhi Mantgani of Birkenhead Medical Building, is lead for the walk-in service: "Our team has given over 90,000 vaccinations to date and we are excited to work in partnership with Wirral CCG and Public Health to bring this service closer to people.

"The surest way to return to normality is to ensure the vast majority of our population are vaccinated.

"We are delighted that vaccinations can be given to all persons over the age of 16 years.

"Please come and have your jab.

"The pandemic is not over and the positive case rates are increasing, so I urge everyone to have the jab to protect themselves, their family and friends."

In addition to these community clinics, there is a walk in facility at Birkenhead Medical Building on Laird Street, CH41 8DB from Monday to Friday (10am-4pm) and Tuesday and Thursday until 6.30pm.

Monday, August 16:

10am-6pm: Outside Birkenhead Park Visitors Centre, Birkenhead Park, Park Dr, Birkenhead CH41 8AU.

First and second doses for anyone aged 16 and over. Pfizer and AstraZeneca

Tuesday, August 17:

10am-6pm: Outside the café / walled garden in Central Park, Liscard Road, Wallasey CH44 0BS.

Wednesday, August 18:

10am-6pm: Fort Perch Rock car park, Marine Promenade, New Brighton CH45 2JU.

Saturday, August 21

10am-1:30pm: The Little Centre, Fifth Avenue, Birkenhead CH43 9LB.

Second doses for people vaccinated on 26thJune. Also first doses for anyone aged 16and over not yet vaccinated.

Urging our readers to get a jab if eligible to do so, Julie Webster, Wirral's director of Public Health added: "Covid vaccination shown to be safe and effective against the virus, including new variants and is the best way to keep yourself from getting seriously ill.

"It also reduces the risk of passing the virus on to someone else.

"The early evidence suggests that the hugely successful mass vaccination programme has weakened the link between infection of risk of hospitalisation and loss of life, which is incredibly encouraging.”
