A unique sensory group has been giving babies and children a head start in learning to speak Spanish.

Lauren Adamson launched Spanish Tots in May 2021 and offers classes in Hoylake, Bebington and Upton.

The classes incorporate music, movement and sensory props for babies and children aged from new-born to five-years-old.

Lauren said: “I lived in Alicante for over 10 years after moving there when I was 13, so a pretty hard age to adapt to a new language, new friends and a whole new way of living. It was quite scary and I found it hard to adjust.

“After moving back to the UK a few years ago and after having my son Ronnie last November, things changed, and Spanish Tots became a dream in my head for many months.

“From the first day Ronnie was born I have spoken to him in Spanish, anything we put on the TV for him would be in Spanish.

“Just seeing him adapt to the language so quickly made me realise that this could be what I’ve always wanted to do.

“Of course, he doesn’t speak the language yet, but he definitely understands me.”

Each week the classes focus on different themes and uses Spanish nursery rhymes to help teach colours, numbers, days of the week and other phrases.

Lauren added: “The response from the children has been fantastic. We have babies from new-born, weeks and months old.

“Seeing their faces light up when a certain song comes on is just the best feeling ever. The older tots start to sing along by week two or three and by week six, head shoulders knees and toes in Spanish is just another song to them.

“Although it is a tot’s class, parents benefit from it too. I have all the mums singing and dancing to all the songs. I get messages from most mums to say they can’t get the Hola song out of their head and this is what we want.

“It really is a dream come true for me and it’s exactly what I wanted to do. I want to give children a head start in learning the language because it can be very overwhelming learning a new language as I have been through it myself.

“Starting at a young age is really beneficial and it’s giving me a whole new world of opportunities and it can give other people it too.”
