A Merseyside store director has been fined after more than 1,000 bottles of vape liquids refill containers with excess nicotine in them were seized at the premises.
Over 500 action figures were also taken in an operation targeting Go Local Extra, on 101 Poulton Road in Seacombe, in Wirral, last year.
As well as containing too much nicotine, the vape liquid, or ‘e-liquid’ as it is also known, did not display health warnings.
While the action figures, of characters such as Batman and Superman, were subsequently confirmed to be counterfeit by the rights holders from Marvel and Warner Bros.
Trading Standards seized the goods on July 2, 2019, but today had their case against Mr Tahir, the store’s sole director, heard at Wirral Magistrates Court.
In total the Trading Standards seizure, which followed an inspection worked on by Merseyside Police, Wirral Council and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, found 1,166 bottles of the non-compliant vape liquids refill containers and 522 counterfeit action figures at the store.
Mr Tahir was accused of breaching the Trade Marks Act by selling the counterfeit action figures and breaching Tobacco and Related Products regulations by selling the non-compliant vape liquid.
He pleaded guilty to all three charges and was fined £350 and ordered to pay £2,000 contribution to costs, as well as a £35 victim surcharge.
He has been ordered to pay at a rate of £500 per month.
