MORE new coronavirus cases have been confirmed across the Wirral borough as it awaits Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s lockdown announcement.
The latest figures from Public Health England cover the 24-hour period up to 9am today, October 31.
In the Wirral borough, there were 90 confirmed Covid-19 cases in that time – taking the borough’s total to 8,045 since the pandemic began.
That is a significant drop on the 157 new coronavirus cases that were confirmed across the borough on Friday.
Elsewhere, in nearby Cheshire West – which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston - there were 121 confirmed Covid-19 cases in the 24 hours up to 9am today.
And over the water in Liverpool, there were 256 more cases confirmed today.
Wirral borough, along with the rest of the Liverpool City Region, has now spent more than two weeks under Tier 3 restrictions – but they are soon expected to be replaced by a national lockdown for England.
Mr Johnson is expected to make an announcement this evening.
