Police cordoned off a children's playground and park area last night following reports of loud bangs in a busy residential area.
But a subsequent investigation has determined that the incident is not as serious as first feared.
Police confirmed this morning that they had received reports of loud bangs - which some residents claimed sounded like gunshots - coming from the park on Port Causeway in Bromborough, opposite the Aldi supermarket and adjacent to the A41.
The incident happended shortly after 8.15pm on Tuesday evening (September 15), before a dark blue Ford Focus was driven away. It lead to officers taping off the entire park area.
But following the investigation, Merseyside Police has now confirmed to the Globe that no firearms were discharged and the bang was casued by a firework.
