A KNIFE was found hidden behind a bait box near Birkenhead Market.
Police officers made the discovery yesterday as they conducted searches to combat knife crime as part of Operation Clear.

The objectives of the operation are to reduce the levels of violence seen within the town.
Officers carried out searches based upon information received regarding where weapons were being hidden.

The knife hidden behind a bait box near the market has now been safely disposed of.
Whilst on patrol, the police also conducted personal safety talks with the homeless community who are often subjected to violence and are reluctant to report such incidents.
Advice was also given to security staff working within the town centre in regards to knife crime offences and sharp weapons.
Police officers offered licensees advice on how to prevent drug use
Many local licensees were spoken to and officers were able to demonstrate the use of knife detector wands to them and also were able to deliver advice on how to prevent drug use within their premises as the drug and alcohol use often leads to violence either there or within the local community.

Officers continued to maintain a prominent presence on the streets last night and during the early hours to make the community safer.
